WE TAKE SOME PETITIONS SERIOUSLY

At Meet Our Horse Meat, we take ‘some’ petitions seriously—because we know not all petitions are created equal.

That’s why we generally do not promote petitions that are privately hosted or lack government backing.

Instead, we focus on supporting petitions that are officially sponsored by elected representatives at the state or federal level here in Australia.

Why?

Because these petitions carry real weight.

They can trigger debate or discussion within Parliament, draw attention at multiple levels of government, and—when they gather enough signatures—require an official response from the minister responsible for the issue.

In other words, they have the power to move beyond online clicks and into the halls of government where change can actually be made.

P.S. We also support letter writing campaigns!

DEMAND NON LETHAL ALTERNATIVES TO THE MASSACRE OF BRUMBIES – EMMA HURST, MP ANIMAL JUSTICE PARTY

Thursday, March 28, 2024: Brumby advocates – here is the truth. On Wednesday I put up a motion calling for the killing of brumbies to stop. The National Party put up an amendment calling for a pause while the shooting was investigated. The amendments failed after the Shooters Party MPs turned their backs on the brumbies and voted against their own party’s position against aerial shooting. They voted to support the Government’s aerial shooting program. Further, two MP’s from the Liberal Party abstained from voting – never even coming into the chamber. The Liberals then walked out of the chamber on my motion, causing the first ever Coalition split in this term of Parliament. I am now told that the Liberals have put out a statement that they ‘cautiously support aerial shooting’. We are in the last days of the Upper House inquiry where the huge majority of submissions called for the killing to stop. Sign the petition calling on the shooting to stop here. I don’t know what deals have been done behind closed doors to get support for this bloodbath. In my speech in Parliament I said, “One day Parliament will have a genuine discussion about true interspecies justice, rather than ignoring the truth about humanity and kindness – to pretend that these animals do not suffer or feel pain is not a political position – it is cowardice.”

#MOHM THREATENED?

We’ve been threatened by those in the horse racing industry and those who benefit from horse slaughter more times than we can count.

But we are not going away.

We are going to persist until horse slaughter no longer exists for any purpose within Australia -- and until the horse racing industry makes drastic changes.

We are going to continue our hands-on work to offer lifelong sanctuary to as many horses as possible.  We generally have 20 at just one of our locations - at any given time.

We have the acreage to take on more horses as financial support allows.

You do NOT need a PayPal account to contribute.
