THE FACT THAT WE CARE — ACCORDING TO HORSE RACING “SPOKESPERSON” GAI WATERHOUSE — MAKES US “WEAK & PRISSY”!

“Accidents happen in any sport”.

People have become so weak and prissy nowadays“.

From the article:

Newmarket Handicap-winning jockey and father of four Dean Holland has died tragically after a shocking fall in Victoria on Monday.

Holland, 34, crashed to the turf when his mount Headingley ducked in sharply and fell as the field entered the straight in the opening race at Donald.

Victoria Police said: “(Holland) was worked on by paramedics but sadly died at the scene”

Also from the article…

Holland leaves behind a partner Lucy, and tragically, four children under four years of age — Harley, Luca, Frankie and Lily.

ALSO FROM THE ARTICLE:

It is the latest in a series of shocking falls in Victoria in recent weeks which seriously injured jockeys including Jamie Kah, Ethan Brown, Craig Williams and Teo Nugent.

Holland had his biggest day in the saddle only a few weeks ago when he picked up the last-minute winning ride on In Secret in the Newmarket Handicap at Flemington.

Holland landed the ride after Kah was injured in a fall earlier in the day.

“Holland was one of two riders dislodged from their horse in the opening race. He was immediately attended to by on-course paramedics, however, was unable to be saved due to the nature of his injuries,” Racing Victoria said in a statement”.

Jockey Alana Kelly, who was the other rider to fall in the incident, was cleared of any serious injuries. Both horses, Headingley and Time To Rumble, were unharmed.”

More than 870 jockeys have died in race falls in Australia over the last 180 years, according to the Australian Jockeys Association.

PLEASE NOTE, the following is from 2019 – so it is not up to date BUT we think the “statistic” is well worth paying attention to,  “20 jockeys dead in 9 years”.

August 2019:

Australian horse racing industry figures show 20 jockeys have been killed in the country since 2000, 17 of them during races and three during track work. In February, a Victoria state trainer died, also after falling from a horse during a training run.

#MOHM THREATENED?

We’ve been threatened by those in the horse racing industry and those who benefit from horse slaughter more times than we can count.

But we are not going away.

We are going to persist until horse slaughter no longer exists for any purpose within Australia -- and until the horse racing industry makes drastic changes.

We are going to continue our hands-on work to offer lifelong sanctuary to as many horses as possible.  We generally have 20 at just one of our locations - at any given time.

We have the acreage to take on more horses as financial support allows.

You do NOT need a PayPal account to contribute.
