TARANAKI ANIMAL SAVE DOCUMENTS ABUSE

March 24, 2023 Taranaki Animal Save posts:

“When we bear witness at the races, we do so from outside the perimeter fence at the beginning of the 1200m and 1400m races.

We are banned from Raceway property and these are our only vantage points.

So we were highly amused yesterday to see that signs had been erected at both locations, in what we can only assume is an attempt to stop us recording footage of the animal abuse going on inside.

As you can see from the other images, we did in fact still witness plenty of abuse, despite the new signs.”

As always, frightened horses were whipped, kicked, tongue-tied, had their ears twisted, and were aggressively shouted at in an attempt to force them into the starting gates. The steward’s report states that a jockey was fined and suspended for excessive whipping, and another horse who was very stressed and reluctant was found by a veterinarian to have a bleeding mouth post-race.

‼️ Call to Action ‼️

We’re not sure how the person on the sign feels about their face being used to hide animal abuse from the public eye, but it’s not a great look for their business.

We encourage people to contact them and question their association with this exploitative industry.

If we all raise our voices, we have the power to force change, so please take a moment to drop Dean a polite email at deanmagon@crediflex.co.nz

In NSW, MP Mark Pearson is presenting a Racehorse Welfare Bill to parliament which, if passed will see a ban on the use of whips, spurs and tongue ties.

#MOHM THREATENED?

We’ve been threatened by those in the horse racing industry and those who benefit from horse slaughter more times than we can count.

But we are not going away.

We are going to persist until horse slaughter no longer exists for any purpose within Australia -- and until the horse racing industry makes drastic changes.

We are going to continue our hands-on work to offer lifelong sanctuary to as many horses as possible.  We generally have 20 at just one of our locations - at any given time.

We have the acreage to take on more horses as financial support allows.
