40 SECONDS OF VIDEO

REMOVED FROM RACING.COM COVERAGE

Racing.com is generally the best place to find horse racing replays and live streaming but earlier this week they very quickly edited three falls out of a replay.

The edited replay?  The first day of jumps racing season in Victoria on March 12, 2024.

Even though Racing.com removed 40 seconds from their replay, thanks to CPR who have coverage of the race including  video of what happened during that 40 seconds on their Facebook page  — we can all see, three horses fell – and fell hard.

Two of the three horses who fell, 9 year old Serenade the Stars, and 5 year old Teofilo Star were reported to not have sustained any physical injuries, but the falls will have been traumatic for all the horses involved.

UPDATE:  After reading the Stewards’ Report

We see this about Teofilo Star:

Teofilo Star (IRE) Made a faulty jump at the third obstacle and fell, dislodging rider Campbell Rawiller.  A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the off fore. A veterinary clearance is required prior to being permitted to race again. The incident will be referred to the Jumps Review Panel.”

The third horse Nelson, an 8 year old, was found to be lame in one of his front legs.

We’re hoping the injuries sustained by Teofilo Star and Nelson do not not result in either being euthanised or dumped for slaughter – and we hope down the road that Serenade the Stars doesn’t come up lame, or worse, as a result of this fall.

Racing.com also reports that in the same race “jockey Campbell Rawiller has suffered a suspected fractured left collarbone...”

That article goes on to state:

“Rawiller was riding $1.20 favourite Teofilo Star for Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott when he fell in the opening jumps race of the season, bringing down Darryl Horner Jnr on Serenade The Stars in the process.”

THE SAME GAI WATERHOUSE WHO THINKS…

Anti-racing advocates are weak and prissy and on the dole.

Oh, and she’s fond of saying that “accidents happen in any sport”.

Not to diminish the death or injuries of jockeys on the track but the big difference when it comes to the so-called “sport” of horse racing is that horses do not have a choice.  Human athletes have a choice as to whether to train and compete, horses do NOT.

Retired human athletes who “age out” of competition, or have career-ending injuries, or who are not big money earners are NOT slaughtered…

Yet, in horse racing, unwanted horses are referred to as wastage and race horses are slaughtered by the thousands each and every year.

Horses AND jockeys die on and at the track each year.  Do a quick Google search and see how many racehorses died in Australia in 2023.

We’ve posted a fraction of the horse deaths on our “kick up for racing” facts/blog page.  We don’t have enough hours in the day to keep up with all the racing wrongdoings.

One other thing, if it is “weak and prissy” to care about horses then we freely admit that we are “weak and prissy” — and we are proud to be so.
