REALLY?
Horse racing fans cling to their dream like it’s a religion—and they’ll defend it with cult-like intensity.
When MOHM posts a criticism they quietly agree with, not a peep. But dare to challenge one of their sacred cows, and suddenly it’s a full-blown pile-on.
They come charging in, spewing racing industry propaganda like it’s gospel, thinking if they shout loud enough, it’ll drown out the truth.
It’s laughably transparent. But thank you to the naysayers—for commenting on and sharing our posts and proving, time and time again, how fragile the illusion really is.
And now let’s get to this fantasy some people keep pushing: that old, barren mares are not sent to the knackery—and that it’s somehow illegal to send a thoroughbred there.
What absolute rubbish.
Here’s the quote:
“Again I am very well aware of the stud book and mares who cannot fall pregnant are definitely not sent to the knackery… it is illegal for a thoroughbred to be sent to a knackery and a knackery who is known or seen to take in thoroughbreds are well at risk of fines and potential loss of business.”
Wrong.
100% wrong.
That is not only false—it’s dangerous disinformation.
Let’s look at the facts:
Gerry Harvey, Australia’s biggest breeder, admitted that one of his studs was caught sending horses to slaughter.
Tamac Stud’s Mark Taylor sent over 80 horses to the knackery.
Tim Nolan of Murrulla Stud was found guilty by Racing NSW of sending horses to slaughter—and that’s after the industry tried to sweep it under the rug.
And those are just SOME of the ones who recently got caught.
Anyone in the Hunter Valley with half a clue knows there’s a regular run of broodmares heading straight to Kankool Knackery.
It’s an open secret.
So let’s be crystal clear:
👉 It is NOT illegal to send a thoroughbred to a knackery.
👉 It is against racing rules, not the law.
👉 And Racing NSW only has jurisdiction over licensed individuals—who have to actually get caught in the act.
Saying “it’s illegal” is like claiming breaking the rules of Monopoly gets you arrested.
It’s pure fiction designed to protect an industry that lives in fear of the truth.
People can keep pushing this fairy tale, but the facts won’t go away.
So you can keep calling us liars—we’ll keep showing you proof.

And while the industry lies and deflects, we’ve been doing the work—buying horses at auction before the kill buyers (aka doggers) get their hands on them.
Horses that the racing world discarded like trash.
We’ve seen the tags.
We’ve seen the fear in their eyes. And we’ve paid the price—literally—to get them out alive.
So don’t talk to us about what “doesn’t happen.”
We know exactly what happens.
Because we’ve been there.
We’ve saved them.

#MOHM NEEDS YOUR HELP!
We’ve been threatened by those in the horse racing industry and those who benefit from horse slaughter more times than we can count.
But we are not going away.
We are going to persist until horse slaughter no longer exists for any purpose within Australia -- and until the horse racing industry makes drastic changes.
We are going to continue our hands-on work to offer lifelong sanctuary to as many horses as possible. We generally have 20 at just one of our locations - at any given time.
We have the acreage to take on more horses as financial support allows.
