In Defense of Keyboard Warriors: Why Your Voice Online Matters More Than Ever
The term “keyboard warrior” often gets tossed around as an insult — as if speaking out online is somehow less valid or courageous than showing up in person.
It’s used to mock those who post passionately about politics, social justice, or humanitarian causes from behind a screen.
But here’s the truth: we love keyboard warriors.
In fact, we need them.
Social media is one of the most powerful advocacy tools we’ve ever had.
It’s a platform where movements are born, voices are amplified, and change begins with a post, a share, a comment.
Every time someone shares a story that needs to be heard, comments to express solidarity, or reposts a call to action — that’s influence. That’s participation. That’s being part of something bigger.
Too often, people underestimate the impact they can have with a few taps of the keyboard.
But influence doesn’t exist in a vacuum — it happens in overlapping circles.
You might not be the person leading a march or drafting policy, but your post might be the one that wakes someone up, sparks a conversation, or connects a person to a cause they hadn’t considered before.
That ripple effect? It’s real.
Movements are made up of many roles: the organizers, the funders, the storytellers, the protestors, the educators, and yes — the keyboard warriors.
Sharing a post doesn’t mean you’re doing “the bare minimum.” It means you’re doing something, and that something can matter deeply to someone else.
So the next time someone tries to shame you for using your voice online, remember: a comment can plant a seed.
A share can spark a shift.
And a keyboard can be a weapon for justice, for connection, for truth.
Keep typing. Keep commenting. Keep liking. Keep sharing. AND THANK YOU for caring!
#MOHM NEEDS YOUR HELP!
We’ve been threatened by those in the horse racing industry and those who benefit from horse slaughter more times than we can count.
But we are not going away.
We are going to persist until horse slaughter no longer exists for any purpose within Australia -- and until the horse racing industry makes drastic changes.
We are going to continue our hands-on work to offer lifelong sanctuary to as many horses as possible. We generally have 20 at just one of our locations - at any given time.
We have the acreage to take on more horses as financial support allows.
