ANONYMOUS “FEEDBACK” FROM EX MERAMIST EMPLOYEE
Whistleblowers are invited to contact MOHM regarding violations occurring during horse slaughter or transport to slaughter.
Are you an ex or current slaughterhouse employee, a transport driver or a feedlot operator with knowledge of animal abuse, or other violations?
Are you a track veterinarian who has evidence of horses “run” on phenylbutazone or other drugs, and then being shipped to slaughter?
Do you have pictures/video of horses in transit to slaughter?
Anonymity guaranteed!
Meramist is a multi-species abattoir in Caboolture, Queensland that kills cattle, horses for human consumption and until recently, camels.
(In the last few months it appears that they are – at least for now – not slaughtering horses. Updates on that front to follow.)
Meramist falls under the Belgian parent company, Multimeat.
The owners of Meramist are Belgians, Luc Nauwelaers, his sister, Marie-Christine Nauwelaers and New Zealander, manager of Meramist, Mike Eathorne.
A FEW DAYS AGO WE RECEIVED THE FOLLOWING:
We’ve copied and pasted the above below, and spaced it out a bit to make it easier to read but otherwise not changed anything.
Hii, just wanted to give some feedback – I used to work at Meramist for 5 years and would like to remain anonymous.
I can confirm each year the office staff would litterally celebrate at Christmas by going to the races, it’s a joke and they’re just laughing in people’s faces.
I worked on the floor, the meat would be constantly dropped on the ground and workers are told to put it back in the box.
Ecoli and other testing that was carried out was faked because the labourers doing that job did not have time to do it as they were made to push boxes instead.
CONSTANT Ammonia leaks would occur which is not just dangerous for the product, but deadly if too much is inhaled by people..
and Mike would force employees to work through the smell and the pain behind your eyes and head and the fire department is never call even though it’s a legal requirement.
The safety in the freezers, the ice hanging Down is litterally a death waiting to happen.
Mike is rude, dosent treat even the workers with respect… screams at them and I mean SCREAM if he dosent get what he wants.
Girls were sexually assaulted at this workplace and the managers spoke to them to make sure it was okay if the offenders kept their job because It wasn’t a big deal.
Obviously I don’t keep proof of this but I lived this because this was my job and I felt trapped there, it’s litterally scarred me for life and I’m so lucky to have moved on.
They take out the baby’s of unborn cows once killed and send them to labs to use they’re blood for testing, they sell gall bladder stones from the cows for MASSIVE dollars (which workers were stealing and selling themselves)
I know this group is mainly about the horses and I don’t know much as I was mainly involved in the process after the killing was done, but it’s also the product the profit largely on yet the workers are paid so little for their work on a ‘horse day’ they get paid more for cattle.
Again, I’m really just having a spell because I passed my workplace and googled them and felt like sharing. I hope the worst comes to this company and the people who run it
#MOHM NEEDS YOUR HELP!
We’ve been threatened by those in the horse racing industry and those who benefit from horse slaughter more times than we can count.
But we are not going away.
We are going to persist until horse slaughter no longer exists for any purpose within Australia -- and until the horse racing industry makes drastic changes.
We are going to continue our hands-on work to offer lifelong sanctuary to as many horses as possible. We generally have 20 at just one of our locations - at any given time.
We have the acreage to take on more horses as financial support allows.
