$270,000 HORSE SLAUGHTERED FOR HUMAN CONSUMPTION
Soviet was killed at #Meramist last Monday, June 27, 2022, for human consumption.
He ended up with what we call ‘doggers‘ – a person that buys a horse for slaughter, and who in some cases will on-sell for more money.
Ending up in the hands of a dogger spelled the end for Soviet, a young horse – who could have lived another 20 years, but instead, he was slaughtered for human consumption – yes a person is going to eat him!
Racehorses and other horses that are not specifically raised for meat are treated on a regular basis with worm medications that are clearly marked as not being meant for use on livestock that is to enter the human food chain.
Those eating horse meat should also be aware that many horses, and especially horses that have raced have been treated with a very common drug used to numb pain…
Any horse owner will tell you that Phenylbutazone or Bute is an everyday go-to medication. It’s so common in fact, that it’s like paracetamol for humans. It is used as an anti-inflammatory and painkiller.
It is, however dangerous for humans. It has the potential for severe bone marrow toxicity, which results in dangerously low white blood cell counts.
Other side effects include :

ulcerations

abdominal burning

pain

cramping

nausea

gastritis

serious gastrointestinal bleeding, and

liver toxicity.

Soviet had 49 races and lots of trials and multiple trainers, but the poor boy went to his cruel death and no one cared.
He knew no love or proper care to end up in this horrendous place where he had no power and had to face his death alone in the prime of life.
Local Rule 114 of Racing NSW states that no horse who has spent the majority of his life in NSW shall go to slaughter…
the horse is not to be, directly or indirectly, sent to an abattoir, knackery or similarly disposed of:

We recently contacted Racing NSW and reported that Soviet was slaughtered for human consumption.
We were told that Racing NSW would investigate and respond BUT we have yet to hear back.
PLEASE join us in making a similar call or sending an email and demanding that Racing NSW not only investigate but report on their findings.
