Re-home a racehorse.

Consider adopting an off the track AKA retired Standardbred or Thoroughbred.  Or a horse that never made it to the track.

Even though racehorses have been specifically bred to race, they can be taught to cut cows, barrel race, trail ride, jump and so much more.

Racehorses generally have been handled frequently and usually  have impeccable ground manners and a great work ethic.  

Rehoming a racehorse gives them another lease on life, keeps them out of the clutches of the doggers and slaughter houses and allows them to live and die with dignity.

This is an important tool for raising awareness on social media and is also crucial for collecting data on journey times.

There are plenty of alternatives for an unwanted horse:

• Rescues
• Paddock companions
• Green dream (humane Euthanasia by veterinarian)
• Shooting
• There are knackeries that will shoot onsite and remove the body. They may charge a fee for this. This is a humane option because the horse is not put through the stress of leaving its home and smelling fear and death in a knackery

Disposal of the body:

• Burial
• The tip (waste centre AKA dump)
• People with land can leave the body in an isolated place
• Burning

Let people know that sending a horse to the sales without a reserve puts the horse at high risk from doggers.

Support Genuine Rescues.

Help rescues help horses.

Every time we see a horse in desperate need, we want to help them.

Clearly we can’t save all of them ourselves.

This is why rescues are important. Our financial support of rescues allows them to keep saving horses in need.

There are many rescues out there, but it’s important to learn about them before supporting.

There are Facebook groups that identify the dodgy operators.

Below are three rescues that we know are genuinely helping horses:

I’m sure they are not saying unwanted horses are a mess but are trying to point the finger at people who breed horses indiscriminately. Their comments inadvertently legitimize doggers.

Language is important. Horses are not a mess to be cleaned up by slaughtering them.

The use of the word ‘cleaned’ implies something good and legitimate is happening to these horses.

Dogging horses is not a legitimate or necessary business.

People who love horses have nothing but contempt for these people.

It’s not a real job with actual skills.

They just collect horses from wherever they can and then deliver them to someone to kill them.

Challenge these attitudes that promote doggers as necessary or inevitable.
